Introduction:

The Department of Operations and Supply Chain Management (Formerly known as Department of Logistics and Management Science) was founded in 2015 after merging the teaching and research section of Logistics Management formerly affiliated to the Department of Business Administration and the teaching and research section of Management Science formerly affiliated to the Department of Agricultural Economy Management. The Department provides three undergraduate programs, i.e., Logistics Management, Management Science, and Business Administration (Business Analytics), and one master program, i.e., Business Management (Operations and Supply Chain Management)The enrolment of undergraduate students specializing in Management Science and Logistics Management began in 2001 and 2003, respectively. We stopped enrolling the undergraduate students specializing in Management Science in 2022. Instead, we begin to enroll the undergraduate students specializing in Business Administration (Business Analytics) in 2022. The enrolment of master students specializing in Logistics Management and Management Science and Engineering (Operations Management) began in 2009 and 2017, respectively. In 2020, these two master programs are merged as Business Management (Operations and Supply Chain Management). PhD students are enrolled in the program of Business Administration. Currently, there are more than 400 in-campus undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The Department has a very responsible and energetic faculty team composed of 12 faculties. They all have a Ph.D degree awarded by famous domestic or overseas universities. Their education backgrounds include business administration, management science and engineering, economics, mathematics, library information management, etc. Two teachers obtained Ph.D degree from overseas universities; over half of the faculties have overseas study experiences, and several faculties worked in various companies. Recent years, they have undertaken 8 projects sponsored by the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 4 projects sponsored by the National Social Science Foundation of China, and 4 projects sponsored by the Social Science Fund of the Ministry of Education. They have published over dozens of papers in prestigious journals such as Production and Operations Management, European Journal of Operational Research, Transportation Science, International Journal of Operations and Production Management, International Journal of Production Economics, Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation, Annals of Operations Research, Journal of System Engineering & Electronics,  China Management Science (Chinese), Journal of System Engineering(Chinese), Journal of Management Engineering(Chinese), Control and Decision Making(Chinese), Computer Integrated Manufacturing System(Chinese), Journal of Library Science in China(Chinese), Applied Mathematics, etc. In addition, they also obtain some award in teaching. For example, they won the first prize of the Eighth Hubei Teaching Achievement Award.

The Department has explored a perfect training mode in practical experimental teaching. Relying on the national-level key laboratory platform, the department has created a modern logistics simulation laboratory equipped with the world-class simulation software. The laboratory has developed over 500 class hours of simulation contents that can be used in the teaching concerning three-dimensional logistics perception and logistics process experience. Moreover, it can also design simulated logistics system, develop management optimization solution and conduct other researches. The Department has created internship bases on the premises of several corporate partners. Students are encouraged to take part in social practices. It is worth mentioning that students of the Department have won the first prize in the National College Student Logistics Design Contest (Second Edition) and prize in several national-level contests.

Logistics is a sunrise industry; and Management Science and Business Analytics have deep academic origins. Relying on academic resources of the School of Business Administration, the Department of Operations and Supply Chain Management are well poised to combine theories with practices, integrate qualitative management with quantitative management, and realize coordinated development of the majors.
